It's been some time since I last submitted a Mario fanart like this. This drawing is the result of the simple idea that Metal Mario, from Super Mario 64, can't be stomped by a Thwomp — or should I say, he can't be "thwomped". Metal Mario stands as one of the greatest Mario Power-Ups of all time, and it's certainly the most kickass of all his transformations. It's a time-limited form, so it generates such an excitement on the player — specially with Metal Mario's theme song, which is just outstanding — and we feel like we're the kings of the game. I'm invincible. I'm heavy. I'm the metal man.
As for the Thwomp, it gave me some trouble to be done, since both the traditional and digital art made for him were complicated. As you can see, I've chosen the original Super Mario 64 version of Thwomp; I know they've "fixed" the blue Thwomp in Super Mario 64 DS into a standard gray, spiked Thwomp, but this artwork was supposed to be a new vision of the original Super Mario 64 — without any major change. You can see some reflection tricks all over Metal Mario's body; those are actual screenshots from the Whomp's Fortress level. I tried to make him look opaque, but at the same time, shining. I don't know if it worked quite well. You tell me!
I love Metal Mario. Nothing bad for a plumber, huh?
